Digital Marketing Professional for 15+ Years

Amitha is a Digital Marketing professional based in Colombo, Sri Lanka, having more than 15 years’ experience in eMarketing, eCommerce, social media marketing and performance marketing. He started his career in digital marketing in 2004, at a time when the topic of digital marketing wasn't mainstream among the marketing fraternity in Sri Lanka. He joined a Colombo-based online travel agency (, catering to European travellers, as an eCommerce executive and held the position of eCommerce manager when he finished his six-year tenure with the company.

In 2010, Amitha joined the global advertising giant Ogilvy as the head of Neo@Ogilvy, a new business unit specializing in digital advertising. Under his leadership, Neo@Ogilvy grew into being the pioneering digital agency in Sri Lanka serving more than twenty local and multinational companies. At the time of his departure from the company in 2020, Ogilvy Digital (formerly Neo@Ogilvy SL) stood as the leading digital agency in Sri Lanka with a staff of over 55 digital specialists and a client portfolio of over 40 local and multinational brands.

Amitha is a co-founder of Sri Lanka-based Digital Marketing training institute, Asia Pacific Institute of Digital Marketing, and starting in 2021 he assumed the full-time responsibility of being the Chief Executive Officer of the institute. He also runs his own Digital Strategy Consultancy business, providing digital strategy guidance to a number of Sri Lankan and foreign brands.

Amitha plays an active role in disseminating digital marketing knowledge among young students of marketing in Sri Lanka. He is a visiting lecturer at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura on the subject of Digital Marketing, and he is the lead trainer at the Asia Pacific Institute of Digital Marketing (APIDM). Amitha played a pioneering role in introducing Digital Marketing as a subject stream to the local university system in 2013, when he partnered with the Department of Marketing Management at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, to introduce the subject to their curriculum. He also played a key role in introducing the subject of Digital Marketing to the curricula of the University of Kelaniya.

Amitha obtained his bachelor's degree in Marketing from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura and obtained a Master of Business Administration degree from the Postgraduate Institute of Management (PIM) of the same university. He also is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (MCIM) UK.
