Google is leaning into their Multitask Unified Model (MUM) for organic search... What does that mean for you?

Kevin Church shared this great article from The Verge about Google's recent move to better integrate MUM into their organic search algorithm

What does this mean for you? It means context will play a larger role in the categorization and ranking of search content!! Further, websites that cover topics in a more in-depth content structure (*cough cough* They Ask, You Answer *cough cough*) are going to benefit and see a boost in their rankings and performance.

Whether you're a content manager or someone passionate about getting your website to rank better, it sounds like we're on the right trail forward!

I don't see it boosting ranking and performance (time will tell), but I see MUM making the user experience more focused and providing more relevant content. A better user experience which Google is constantly improving. Something I do see here is that we should be very specific with our They Ask, You Answer content questions and very thorough in our answers.

Great points  Keven Ellison ! The thing I'm curious about (as you said, time will tell) is as Google identifies sites that are regularly being recognized as relevant with MUM, it potentially will influence rankings as a more helpful site. Constant improvement :)

Connor DeLaney , yes, Google has the uncanny ability to add other updates bundled in with a major update so we may have to test and identify additional characteristics of our content so that it is recognized by MUM and ranks well.
