There are many attributes that make a coach a great coach. Two traits that can be somewhat controversial are: a) never being completely satisfied, and b) being highly sensitive to the mistakes our clients are making.
There’s no question in my mind that these behaviours help us to be highly effective and valuable coaches.
However, it comes at the risk of losing our ability to show genuine compassion for the work and progress that the client...

Hey folks,
I'm excited to share this episode with you.
It's a little longer, and for a good reason.

And then we go into a discussion about how to deal with problems that your clients bring you in a way that adds value in stead of 'falling on your own sword'.
As always, I'd love to hear...

One of the challenges I used to have in my work as a They Ask, You Answer coach, was that after a relatively short space of time clients would say things like:
- We’re done now
- We’ve got it from here

In this week's episode of The Authoritative Podcast I talk about the different types of changes I’ve made to my processes to solve this...

Hey y'all,
I've been a little quiet this past few weeks - vacation, plus a bit of a digital 'detox' (which I often do just to clear my head - I've re-kindled my love for Cal Newport and I've been thinking deeply about the role of technology in my life).
I really enjoyed preparing and shooting this podcast episode for you. I don't believe endings get enough attention and so this episode is a little different in that I focus on the topic of...

Hey folks,
When your client comes to you with a problem, they want you to sweep in and solve the problem for them, take away the pain, save them. In some cases, they even want you to take the blame, to take responsibility for the problem.
When your client comes to you with a problem, they want you to sweep in and solve the problem for them, take away the pain, save them. In some cases, they even want you to take the blame, to take responsibility for the problem.
But, you wouldn’t be doing your job if you did that.
You aren’t here to rescue your client from their problems. No real learning takes place when you rescue people. Instead, shift from a rescuer to a coach...

Hey y'all,
Thanks to the few of you who have joined this community early.
One of the reasons for creating this community was to open up a place to have a deeper discussion with each other around these topics that we're interested in.
Expect me to post excerpts from my letter, episodes of the podcast, and, amongst other ideas for us to connect, I will start doing some live online events as the community grows.
In the mean time, here's episode 3...

- The frustration that the work you should be doing isn’t getting the attention it deserves?
- The growing anxiety of passing time and wondering if it’ll ever be possible to do your best work?
Bad news: It’s on...
